Buying a home without travelling for it
How a purchase runs when the buyer lives abroad: identity checks, signatures before a notary and moving the money safely.
More than a third of our purchases are for buyers who never visit the office. A remote purchase follows the same steps as any other, with three differences.
Identity checks
The law requires us to verify who you are and where the money comes from. From abroad this is done by video, with documents certified by a notary or a consulate.
Signatures
Some documents must be signed in the presence of a witness or a notary. We send them with instructions, and the notary where you live returns them to us.
Moving the money
Send funds only to the account in our engagement letter, and confirm the details by phone before every transfer. Fraudsters copy law firm emails; a phone call stops them.
